Business Corruption in Georgia

Corruption presents a low business risk for companies looking to invest in Georgia. Overall, the country has been a success story in reducing corruption in recent years. Increasing government transparency and efficiency have led to Georgia becoming one of the easiest places in the world to start a business and to deal with licences and permits. Georgian anti-corruption legislation is largely contained within the Criminal Code and builds a good legislative framework for curbing corruption in the country, even though enforcement still lacks in some sectors. Deficiencies exist in the judiciary and in public procurement following some high-profile corruption cases. Georgian law does not make an exception for facilitation payments, so these should be assumed to be prohibited.
