Business Corruption in the Ivory Coast

Corruption is a major obstacle for businesses investing in the Ivory Coast. Public procurement, public services and the extractive industries are among the most problematic sectors in the country. The Ivorian anti-corruption legal framework criminalises passive and active bribery of national and foreign officials, abuse of office and money laundering , among other offences; nonetheless, the legislation is weak and is not effectively enforced. Many government officials engage in corruption with impunity. Bribery and gifts are criminalised under Ivorian law but are widespread throughout the country.
